Tips for Including Your Pet

One wedding trend I’m seeing more and more: A couple’s furry friend taking part in the ceremony.

I happen to love when pets are involved in the processional of a wedding, and I’ve actually done several weddings that included dogs. One of these featured a pair of pugs dressed in a bridal gown and tuxedo, respectively. Adorable! Other weddings had the pups serve as ring bearers, strutting down the aisle with satchels in their mouths containing the wedding rings.  dogs in wedding

wedding invitation Printed materials are one of the top five things you need to address when planning your wedding. I make the reference all the time that a wedding should tell a story. Well, your story begins and ends with your printed materials! What does that mean?

Your first bit of printed info is the save-the-dateif you choose to do one. Before you print them, decide on your color scheme — because your save-the-date should match.

Why You Shouldn’t Skip Videography

Videography: It's the one-line item that many couples forget about while outlining their budget. Here, David Tutera explains why you should make room in your budget for a wedding video.

wedding videographyI always insist that my clients consider booking videography on top of photography. Then, they always ask, "Can my photographer do my videography?" The answer is that while they probably can, my advice is that you hire a separate expert, allowing the photographer to focus just on what he or she does best.

The reason why I insist on video? When your wedding is long over, you'll sooner watch a video than look at your photos. And when you're celebrating your 25th or 50th anniversary, you'll want to see and remember your loved ones who have since passed on still. The movement of your guests set to powerful music is so much more impactful than looking at photos.

Paris-Themed Bridal Shower

Bride-to-be Alicia came up with the idea for her Parisian bridal shower from the moment that her fiancé proposed to her. "I am a firm believer that a bride’s shower should be a reflection of who they are, so I tried to do just that with my theme. I feel Paris was the city where fashion and beauty blossomed, so I really wanted to incorporate that. My inspiration came from a quote by Coco Chanel: 'A girl must be two things: Classy and fabulous.'"

This muse also led to the stunning centerpieces shown here, which also served as table numbers. Alicia searched several Michael’s stores to find the perfect vase and printed out individual perfume bottle tags. She relied on florists Anne and Anne to select accompanying flowers, and was thrilled with their "brilliant" color choices.

Fashion-Themed Bridal Shower

At Tara’s bridal shower, one table number sign read: "Elegance is the only beauty that never fades." And beauty there was — everything from the cookies (modeled after shoes, wedding gowns and handbags) to the bride herself (outfitted with a pearl bracelet and necklace, Chanel makeup, Viktor & Rolf "Flowerbomb" perfume), was fashion-forward.

A self-professed Type A personality, Tara collaborated with her event planner, Matthew Abraham, and mom, Sylvia, to throw a party based on her lifelong love of style. "Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved clothes and accessories, and this has transferred into my adult life, as well. Fashion is what makes us unique or different, and I believe that fashion designers allow women to do just that," said Tara.

Tips for Making a Wedding Toast

The dreaded toasts! The potential death sentence to any great party... unless you can apply these simple rules.

Let's start with the basic rules:

Rule #1: Do not have more than four toasts.
Rule #2: Set a maximum length of three minutes.
Rule #3: Follow rules number one and two!

And now, some tips for making your toast a big hit.

Don't ever consume alcohol before you give a toast. Trust me on this one. Also, this is not a comedic roast — keep it sweet, keep it endearing, and move it along quickly. I really don't need to hear about the funny things that happened in college or the things the bride and groom did with their ex-boyfriends and girlfriends... awkward! It's a wedding, not a college party. If you want to add humor, a little comedy goes a long way.

Yellow-Themed Bridal Shower

Bride-to-be Meehan’s shower was a celebration of her sunny personality. Yellow was used to great effect in subtle ways: everywhere from a "here comes the bride" chalk scrawling to the strings on whimsical paper bells, suspended above the tablescape.

"I loved the dessert bar since it was so colorful and truly a piece of eye candy. A close second was the hand-stamped 'true love' wooden ice cream spoons," revealed the bride’s mother, Julia. Although Meehan knew when the shower would take place, she was purposefully kept in the dark about all of the elements that were being brought together.

The warmth and meaning of the day made an impression on both the bride and her proud mom: "My favorite part was watching all of the guests in attendance enjoy the details of the table, the food, and being made to feel special, as Meehan was treated. That is always truly the best part of any party or gathering."

French-Inspired Bridal Shower

Chic details and an array of down-home treats made a stylish, eclectic statement at this intimate bridal affair.

When design wiz Kristy Rice heard friend Amy's happy news, she snapped into action, planning a bridal shower that featured special details that only a BFF (since middle school) could conjure. A nostalgic jumping-off point: A photograph of Amy and Kristy in front of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, which informed the overall theme. A glorious riot of striped linens, toile patterns and gilt touches were used to ooh-la-la effect. But when it came to the edibles, it was hometown all the way, with mini-cheesecakes, fudge brownies and cotton candy for all. Talk about taking a personal approach!
